明明
it is obvious that
"明明" is used after the subject to indicate that an action or situation is contrary to people's beliefs or expectations.
1. 他明明有空,却不肯参加活动。
2. 小王明明可以赢得,不料却输了比赛。
凭 depend on; lean on
1. 任凭风雨再大,他也不怕。
2. 他全凭自信去参加选美。
宁可。。。也 would rather; had better
"宁可。。。也" is used to express a preference (which may not be a good choice, either) after comparing another option.
1. 他宁可自己累,也不让别人帮忙。
2. 我宁可走回家也不让爸爸请假来接我。
才 intensifier
"才" is used in exclamatory sentences for emphasis.
1. 昨天才赢了一场比赛,我们就很满足了。
2. 能坚持下去的,才是真正的赢家。
越。。。越 the more ..., the more ...
"越。。。越" connects two words or phrases and indicates the increasing degree of one state or process as the other increases.
1. 美国经济今年会越来越好。
2. 这里的房价越来越贵了。
不如 not as good as
"不如" is used in comparison sentences with the meaning "not as good as". "不如" can also appear after the object of comparison, when using "连。。。都不如"
1. 天色已晚了,我们不如回家吧!
2. 这个电影不好看,不如在家看电视。
"怎么" and "为什么" why; how come
"怎么" and "为什么" can both be used to inquire about the reason for something, but "怎么" can also be used to ask about the manner of an action.
1. 那么好的风景点,怎么我们都没来过。
2. 我那么努力,为什么还是不如他?
